The Silesian Mining Choir Polonia Harmonia

The Silesian Mining Choir POLONIA HARMONIA operates in Piekary Śląskie, and was founded in 1912 and belongs to the Confraternity of the Oldest Choirs of the Silesian Voivodeship.

The choir's repertoire includes pieces of ancient and contemporary music, but the dominant group are sacred pieces as well as artistic arrangements of folk music, especially Silesian music. The singers perform in regional costumes: women in Rozbark costumes, and men in miners' uniforms.

The choirs conducts lively concert activities in the country, but also abroad.

He presented his choral skills in many European countries and in over 30 concert trips abroad. The team's successes also include laurels won in various competitions and festivals. The choir is the initiator of the "Barbórka Choral Meetings" and the "International Choral Meetings", the participants of which in subsequent editions there were over twenty teams from Poland and abroad.

 

 POLONIA HARMONIA has three CDs containing artistically prepared folk melodies from Silesia, as well as medleys of Silesian and mining songs, performed together with the Brass Band of the Coal Mine "Sośnica" from Gliwice, and Christmas carols and pastorals.

 

 

The conductor of the Choir is IWONA MELSON. She is a research and teaching employee at the Department of Choral Conducting of the Academy of Music in Katowice. In 2012, she received the title of professor.

Since 1989, he has been the artistic director and conductor of the Silesian Mining Choir POLONIA HARMONIA in Piekary Śląskie. Together with the choir she leads, she cultivates the Silesian singing tradition, which is why she recorded artistic arrangements of Silesian folk melodies on two CDs.

She is the Artistic Director of the Silesian Association of Choirs and Orchestras, within which she co-organizes important musical initiatives, such as the MAGNIFICAT Choral Music Festival and the International Festival of Silesian Choral Songs TROJOK ŚLĄSKI.

She serves as a juror in singing competitions and reviews.
