SONATA
The Sonata Choir from Kalety was founded in 1994 at the Parish of St. Joseph in Kalety-Jędrysek. From the very beginning, the choir has been conducted by Iwona Skop. Since 1996, Sonata has been a member of the Silesian Association of Choirs and Orchestras, and the City Hall of Kalety has taken the choir under its patronage. The choir’s home and rehearsal space became the Municipal Cultural Center.
In 1996, Sonata began a 12-year collaboration with the Hejnał Choir from nearby Strzebiń, and a year later, singers from the Parish of St. Francis of Assisi in Miotek joined the ensemble. At that time, the number of singers exceeded 50, making some stages literally too small to accommodate them. Thanks to this large vocal group, the choir's repertoire grew richer and more diverse.
Sonata Choir has taken part in numerous reviews, concerts, Holy Masses, charity and community events, and festivals. They have organized Christmas carol concerts, Nativity plays, and Stations of the Cross performances. Over the years, the choir has received many awards and distinctions for its artistic contributions.
In 2024, the choir celebrated its 30th anniversary with a grand jubilee concert, highlighting its rich and beautiful history. During this event, heartfelt thanks were extended to conductor Iwona Skop for her 30 years of dedication and leadership.
In the autumn of 2023, the choir welcomed Gabriela Kalinowska into its musical family as its new conductor. With her, the ensemble looks forward to continuing its artistic journey for many years to come.
