Einfart – what is it exactly?

Einfart (or Ajnfart), like many other Silesian terms, can have many meanings. It is basically an entrance gate. In the city - a wide entrance gate in an old tenement house, it had to be wide so that a coal cart could enter the square, technically it is a piece of the tenement house cut out from the ground floor, so that one could drive in or enter it.

For some it is specifically the entrance gate to the building, for others it is any possible entrance - to a shop, to a farm,

for the garden. Through Einfart we enter the yard and patio of the tenement house. It still serves as a meeting place for residents.
