ACADEMIC DANCE ENSEMBLE OF THE SILESIAN UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY “DĄBROWIACY”
The Academic Dance Ensemble “Dąbrowiacy” of the Silesian University of Technology was established in November 1973 at the initiative of university students. Their debut performance took place on May 17, 1974, opening the student Juwenalia festival. The ensemble is affiliated with the Polish Section of CIOFF® and the Polish Academic Folklore Association (PASF). It consists of a skilled team of instructors and about 50 dancers, as well as an 8-member folk band.
“Dąbrowiacy” are particularly known for their faithful re-creations of Silesian folk customs in dance and song. Their repertoire includes numerous programs featuring all Polish national dances and regional performances from many parts of Poland, including: Silesia – Pszczyna, Silesia – Rozbark, Zagłębie, Silesian Beskid, Nowy Sącz, Rzeszów, Kraków, Lublin, Opoczno, Łowicz, Kujawy, Polish National Dances (Polonaise, Mazur, Krakowiak, Oberek, Kujawiak)
By preserving and cultivating national heritage, the “Dąbrowiacy” have become a benchmark for artistically interpreted Silesian folklore and an artistic ambassador of Polish culture abroad.
The ensemble actively supports charitable causes and conducts regular dance and vocal workshops to teach Polish national and regional dances, folk songs, and carols.
