THE OPEN COMMUNITY CHOIR
The Open Community Choir (Otwarty Chór Społeczny) has been active since 2019 and operates under the patronage of the Silesian Museum in Katowice. It brings together singing enthusiasts, with membership based solely on the desire to make music together. Anyone can sing in the choir—regardless of experience or vocal training.
The ensemble’s repertoire is characterized by accessibility, lightness, and a level of difficulty tailored to the choir’s current abilities.
The Open Community Choir performs regularly as part of the Silesian Museum’s event calendar—such as the Biennale Industrii, Night of Museums, Barbórka, and programs like “Songs of the Night” and “Music in Dialogue: Works for Voice and Keys”. The choir also appears at external events, including the 3rd Night of Choirs in Gliwice, 4th and 5th Night of Choirs in Ruda Śląska, and the International Festival – Night of Choirs.
The ensamble is led by Krzysztof Dudzik—Doctor of Musical Arts, music educator, and experienced choral conductor. A graduate of the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, he draws on the relative solmization method in his teaching, inspired by the music education philosophy of Hungarian composer Zoltán Kodály.
Krzysztof Dudzik is also the artistic director of the International Night of Choirs Festival in Ruda Śląska and the program director of the international initiative “Music – Support for People with Depression”. In addition to his artistic work, he also practices psychotherapy.
