CARMINA SILESIA

CARMINA SILESIA

The Carmina Silesia Choir is a group established in 2007 on the initiative of students from the University of the Third Age in Ruda Śląska. Initially named the Chamber Choir, it was soon renamed to "Carmina Silesia," which in Latin means "Songs of Silesia," due to its rapidly growing membership.

Carmina Silesia's performances are an integral part of ceremonies organized by the Ruda University of the Third Age, such as the inauguration of the academic year and the Christmas wafer meeting. Traditionally, each year the choir participates in the Review of Choirs of the Universities of the Third Age "Let's Carol to the Little One."

The choir has achieved recognition by earning distinctions at the National Juwenalia of the Third Age in Warsaw and the Grand Prix of the 4th Wrocław Review of Senior Choirs.

In 2023, the ensemble had the opportunity to accompany musician Dawid Podsiadło during his concerts at the NOSPR in Katowice and joined the family of choirs participating in the 4th Night of Choirs in Ruda Śląska.

Carmina's repertoire mainly consists of folk songs, especially those originating from Silesia, but also includes traditional carols and even light, entertaining pieces.
